Recently after being down and out of commission for doing any work at home via our Corporate office’s Gateway provided Applications I discovered that my Internet Explorer (IE) had everything to do with it. If you are one who often works from home this article will be of some interest to you, if not know, then in the future before you decide to got IE 9 Beta or before you upgrade your OS to Windows 7. First what you need to know is that there are two types of IE; 32bit and 64bit. Windows 7 comes with both. Online document viewers, similar to something like what you see below, will not view in 64bit Internet Explorers. Gateway provided applications will not run from 64bit Internet Explorers. This is also the case with IE 9 (Internet Explorer 9 Beta), so I’d stay away from it, especially if you involve your activities in gateway apps and document viewers.
If you have Windows 7 or are wondering if you are using a 64bit IE or not, IE 64bit will have (64-bit) beside the application name, the IE 32bit will not. See image below:
You can obtain IE 8 32bit at the following location: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/worldwide-sites.aspx Microsoft will offer you IE 9 Beta, ignore it. Scroll down to find two steps (select country & select operating system).
Once you have performed the steps above simply follow the steps through until finish. Then reboot your PC and enjoy your surfing or gateway apps. Remember avoid the 64bit IEs and the IE 9 Beta when working with online document viewers or gateway apps. Also, where it concerns gateways, make sure you have the most update gateway client drivers. Get with your company’s system administrator for more information on that issue.
